LYRICS
1.Your Story
Did you see the subtle hues of blue in that city sky sunset?
Can you hear the buzz of so many human beings building a life in that rundown neighborhood?
Children on sidewalks and men in Mercedes, and each of them reaching out
You’re at the top of this 2-story parking lot swaying to the rhythm, you swear you can feel it sway
You tell it to the judge, confess it to your priest, give it to the ones you love at least
Open up your mouth and let it out, let it out. This is your story.
A bell tower chimes the end of the hour, a siren wails saying “life is so precious, life is so precious”
Somebody asks you what if you fail? What is your backup plan,
who’s gonna save your ass, who’s gonna save you?
You tell it to the judge, confess it to your priest, give it to the ones you love at least
Open up your mouth and let it out, let it out. This is your story.
Down on the street corner voices rise up from the Baptist church
Words of the Lord being sung on high
by a gospel choir, and you swear, you swear you can feel them pray, why don’t you pray with them
And tell it to the judge, confess it to your priest, give it to the ones you love at least
Open up your mouth and let it out, let it out. This is your story.
2.Bullet Proof Vest
Hey you with your bullet proof vest, a heart open wide, still clutched to your chest
Do you want to be on the next TV living out your life in front of everybody?
Hey you with your bullet proof vest, don’t let me down, no I don’t want to rest
Let’s dance ‘til the night wears thin, giddy from being tired, maybe you’ll let me in
Because we almost had it all, we almost had a good one,
We almost had it, but no big deal I know there’s something bigger than this
One night on a hot moon day, beautiful light coming from the city
People loud and drinking outside, they didn’t know we could see them from the window
While we’re running around our heads, spitting out the truth as well as anybody could
You smile and look in my eyes for a long time
Because we almost had it all, we almost had a good one,
We almost had it, but no big deal I know there’s something bigger than this
Now I’m asking are you real? Was it good for you? Did you find out how you feel,
Feel about me?
Here I am on a hot moon day, living out my life in front of everybody
This time, well, I guess you win, but then we’ll see, then we’ll see
Hey, hey, I know there’s something bigger
Hey, hey, I know there’s more
Hey, hey, I know there’s something bigger
Hey, hey, I know there’s more
I know there’s more,
I know there’s more,
I know there is
3.Mr. Moon
Mr. Moon what’s new with you?
It’s been a long time since we sat and shared the view
Mr. Moon I’ve been okay,
When you’ve been gone I’ve had the stars to light my way
Mr. Moon I do proclaim
There’s a boy who’s gone and stolen my heart away
What can I do when I’ve been a fool?
I believed my own lies, even told you they were true
Is there only one for each of us?
Could I miss my chance at happiness?
And when it’s time to make my choice will you be here
To help me see it through?
Is there only one for each of us?
Could I miss my chance at happiness?
And when it’s time to make my choice will you be here
To help me see it through?
Well my wish is true
I’ve made my choice and now
the rest is up to you
4.Stream of Concrete
I am driving in my car, feel the sunshine on my arm
Watching mountains, rolling over on and on
As I follow these white lines, I find my freedom on the inside
Soon you’ll see me out there dancing in the sun
Take me out of this city, ‘cause I just wanna drive
And feel the constant stream of concrete underneath my tires
I am worthy of your love, worthy of being understood
Worthy of you having no one else you think of
I am worthy of this place, worthy of seeing on your face
The look as your eyes fill up with happiness
Take me out of this city, ‘cause I just wanna drive
And feel the constant stream of concrete underneath my tires
I am worthy of my dreams, worthy of struttin’ out in high heels
Worthy of having you believe in me
So sign me up for this next chance, never mind the circumstance
All I wanna do is get out there and dance, dance, dance
So take me out of this city ‘cause I just wanna drive
And feel the constant stream of concrete underneath my tires
Take me out of this city, ‘cause I just wanna drive, and drive, drive, drive
And feel the constant stream of concrete underneath my,
Underneath my, underneath my tires
5.Tongue-Tied
I have nothing to offer you, just my voice, this song and my love that goes on
Tell me that I am crazy, I’ve done this before opened up and showed you my heart
And you, baby, you just watched
Now it’s late were drunk and I
notice your eyes are close to mine my
mouth opens up to speak and I find no words are coming
‘cause tongue-tied is all I ever am with you
remove: tongue-tied is all I ever really am with you
Show me that you are happy with the way things are and I’ll try to convince my heart
It’s not retreating until there’s some kind of follow through
Poetry deems there is beauty in the truth and baby it’s true
that I care for you
Now it’s late we’re drunk and I
notice your eyes are close to mine my
mouth opens up to speak and I
now it’s late we’re drunk and I
notice your eyes are close to mine my
mouth opens up to speak and I say
won’t you take a risk this time and just kiss me
‘cause tongue-tied is all I want to be with you
tongue-tied is all I ever really want to be with you
I’m tongue-tied
I have everything to offer you, I have everything to offer you
I have everything to offer you with my voice, this song and my love that goes, goes on
I’m tongue-tied
we’re tongue-tied
6.Don’t Let Me Down
I cried for you today, but what’s the use in crying anyway,
When these tears they don’t heal a loss that was never found?
And this ache for someone I have never met doesn’t fade
Well, if I haven’t found you yet, what’s it gonna take?
So how can I trust what I cannot see?
And Believe in things I only feel?
And Angels won’t you please come down here and surround me?
And Don’t let me down, don’t let me down
Don’t let me down this time, this time
All those times that I loved so hard I broke my own heart
It hasn’t brought me to where you are.
And all those times that I gave ‘cause I believe giving is what it’s really all about
It hasn’t brought me to where you are.
So how can I trust what I cannot see?
And Believe in things I only feel?
And Angels won’t you please come down here and surround me?
And Don’t let me down, don’t let me down
Don’t let me down this time
Don’t let me down, and don’t let me down
don’t let me down this time
But if I give up control, hand over everything I know,
and open wide my heart as far as it will go
Don’t let me down, don’t let me down
Don’t let me down this time, this time
And Don’t let me down, and don’t let me down
Don’t let me down this time, this time
7.Time Is Yelling
Time is yelling ‘I don’t run counter-clockwise.
Best go spending me on what matters,
Turn off your mind, stop the chatter’
Life is laughing like we’ve got our heads on backwards
‘When you gonna wake up, stop being slackers
And jump off that lame train of thought?’
You can follow that voice even if it scares you
This place can be heaven if we want it to
The devil’s smiling like he owns our souls
‘Bet high boys they’re in for the long haul,
They don’t know any better.
Their ignorance is bliss, but I’ll play my own tricks.
This place could be my heaven, if you catch my drift.’
So follow that voice, even if it scares you
This place can be heaven if we want it to
Time is yelling ‘I don’t run counter-clockwise.
Best go spending me on what matters,
Turn off your mind, stop the chatter’
Follow that voice even if it scares you
This place can be heaven if we want it to
You can follow that voice, follow that voice
Time is yelling…
If we want it to…
8.God May Forgive You
Favorite teacher, younger than the rest
School girl crush, just like my friends
So handsome, so kind, so attentive and so wise
A long kept secret between a girl and a man
God may forgive you but I never can
Walking through the morning halls
See you watch behind a glass wall
Offer your help, my cheeks flush
‘Why don’t you stop by after class?’
A long kept secret between a girl and a man
God may forgive you but I never can
Sun rises, rivers flow
Wonder where a childhood goes?
Wonder if you thought you were right?
Wonder if you sleep at night…
A long kept secret between a girl and a man
Why would I keep it, just a part of your plan?
God may forgive you and I won’t understand
God may forgive you but I never can
9.Come Home
That picture that I drew of you, your nickname down below it, reminds me of you at eighteen
When I was only 12 years old, you were then my favorite, the coolest and the kindest one to me
My first attempt at colored pencil, crayons left behind me, wanting to impress you with my skill
The nostrils were my favorite part, a perfect reproduction, thinking of it makes me laugh still
You were the kind one when the others would be laughing
You took the time to hang out when I felt alone
Won’t you come home
I put the skinny lines in a silver frame, presented it on your birthday
Soon you would be taking off for school
The picture went up on your wall just in case I missed you
‘cause when you left I moved into your room
It never crossed my mind one day I would feel this way
I never understood what changed while you were gone
Won’t you come home
There were letters written I was just too young to read
Things were said I could not hear, secrets kept from me
Now these days I’ve become the keeper of our family
Making it my goal to make us whole
The picture’s still there on the wall, last time I went to visit
Reminding me of everything you left
I wonder do you miss those days, sometimes I catch a glimpse
Of the way we were back then, when
You were the kind one when the others would be laughing
You took the time to hang out when I felt alone
I’ve got my pencils out I’m drawing you another picture
Won’t you come home
Come home, come home
10.Holiday
We were the only ones there in that 2 foot square at the cheesy crowded college bar
on a Thanksgiving night
You said you loved art, you said you loved music and since we were drunk,
that you loved me too
It’s just me and you on this holiday
So we bitched about relationships ‘cause neither of us had others of significance,
that was why we were there
You said that my voice blew you away,
I really didn’t know what to say, so I bought you a beer
It’s just you and me on this holiday
Life can seem unfair and it’s too short to care about the shit that keeps you up at night
And I wonder can we really ever help each other, I think we might
Late at night, 4am and there’s that familiar phone call again
You’re drunk-dialing me up
Yeah I will say that it bugs me, secretly I’m flattered you call me
The subject this time is being an artist, living in our family, insecurity
And how it sucks to be us
So I switch it to affirmations and you actually listen to my positive thinking
and that’s how I know you love me for real…not just because we’re family
Life can seem unfair and it’s too short to care about the shit that keeps you up at night
And I wonder can we really ever help each other, I think we do at night
when we’re drunk or you’re on the phone calling me up
or on the back porch of your studio with whiskey watching the leaves turn brown
or in Barcelona with the locals buying us drinks we don’t know how to pronounce
and the rain’s pouring down, ‘Una mas cerveza por favor!’
Life can seem unfair and it’s too short to care about the shit that keeps us up at night
And I wonder can we really ever help each other, I think we
Life can seem unfair and it’s too short to care about the shit that keeps us up at night
And I wonder can we really ever help each other, I think we might da, da, da, da…
11. Goodnight California
Goodnight California
You’ve been good to me so far
With your diamond studded water, caramel colored sun
I felt your warmth last night, wrapped within your arms
Goodnight California
Your flower scented breath lingers
So I breathe in from the right, turn and take a left
I’ll be back someday, bringing you my best
Good night
Every place I leave
Finds my heart tugging at my sleeve
So I add myself to the stream
To the lights of red and white flowing
As the sun slips out of sight, it’s hard to find the might
To admit to what I’m leaving
Goodnight
Goodnight California
Goodnight California
Goodnight California
As the moons slides through the stars and between my sunroof bars
I’m another person moving…
Goodnight
Goodnight
